Penn State Health St. Joseph is a two-campus health system with locations in Bern Township and downtown Reading. Founded in 1873, the medical center provides a full range of outpatient and inpatient diagnostic, medical and surgical services to Berks County's 410,000 residents. The medical center is widely recognized for its innovations in cardiology, pulmonary care, vascular care, oncology, orthopedics and more. In 2015, St. Joseph became Penn State Health's first member of the not-for-profit health enterprise.

Strausstown, Pennsylvania

Located just 20 minutes from downtown Reading, Strausstown is a borough in Berks County. Founded in 1840 by John Strauss, the small borough is located at the source of several tributaries to Northkill Creek. Nearby Reading pulsates with industrial life and social institutions including hospitals, clubs, fraternal societies, recreational centers, schools, and colleges. Reading is also a center for the arts with its symphony, choral and opera societies, chamber music ensemble, and other excellent music groups.
